An officer noticed a breaking and entering in progress at North Reading Motorsports, located at 49 Main Street, around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, North Reading Police said.

Upon arrival, the officer found damage to the building's front entrance as well as a male suspect who appeared to be fleeing in a U-Haul cargo van, police said. The officer tried stopping the van but was unsuccessful.

Further investigation revealed two motorbikes were stolen from the store, police said. One of the missing motorbikes was recovered from a black SUV in Lawrence on Tuesday and the other bike was found on Wednesday.

Authorities also believe the suspects are behind several similar break-ins that have occurred throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Reading Police at 978-664-3131.
